Pat Hicks: Founder of the Musicians Institute (MI)
Pat Hicks is the founder of the Musicians Institute (MI).
His life demonstrates the truism that "entrepreneurs are born, not made." In 1934, at the height of the Great Depression, he burst from his mother's womb an idea man, a promoter, a wheeler-dealer, risk taker, mover and shaker, and a bit of a benign con man.
His fifth, current, and final wife describes him as a steel ball bearing in a pinball machine as he ricochets from peg to peg, swatted by paddles, yet ending up with a record-breaking score.
Pat was broke and out of work. In 1976, he sold his house and headed to Hollywood with no more than a dream and a pitiful few dollars to open his school, the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. The rest is history.
In addition to writing the Trading Fours: The Golden Years of Musicians Institute, Pat also published the book TEN, which highlights ten of the greatest guitarist of the 1980's.
